Jakarta predicted to drown in the flood in 2012

Jakarta threatened with massive flooding in the rainy season late 2011 to early 2012. Predictable threat of flooding that occurred just as the flood of 2002 and 2007 floods.

"If this happens then the activities in Jakarta will be paralyzed," said Head of Information and Public Relations Data Center National Disaster Management Agency, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho told reporters in Jakarta, Wednesday (16/11). For that Jakarta flood is become top priority to disaster management Agency.

This condition occurs due to possible static conditions such as geology and topography allows it. Currently 40 percent of the land surface in Jakarta under the surface of the sea.

Since 90.33 percent of Jakarta area is waterproof. As soon as it rains, the water will full fill the river .Data showed 81.3 percent of rainfall that fell, 82.8 percent become flood. While in the northern part of Jakarta most damaged drainage. Of the 29 rivers and 66 channels available in Jakarta, 90 percent damaged.

But explained by Sutopo that the floods in Jakarta would not be as severe in Thailand because Indonesia is not passed by tropical cyclone.
